Sunday of the Samaritan Woman
Acts 11:19-26,29-30; Jn. 4:5-42
After having the Savior staying with them for two days, the neighbors of the Samaritan woman told her: “Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard Him ourselves, and know that This is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world” [Jn. 4:42].
So it happens to everyone. At first we are called to the Lord by someone else’s word, or, like we have now in this country, by our birth to a Christian family; but later, when we experience what the life in the Lord truly is, we hold unto the Lord by the inner unity with Him, not by any social affiliation. Anyone born Christian should have this as the law: not to stop at mere external membership, but to seek the profound union with the Lord, to always have an inner proof of continually standing in the truth.
Why do we need that? We ought to have the truth of Christ incarnate within ourselves. And the truth of Christ is a revival of our fallen nature. Thus, “Put off the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lust… And put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness” [Eph. 4:22-24], and see that the Lord Jesus Christ is indeed the Savior not only for the world, but also personally for youl.
