Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the fountains of life” [Pr. 4:23].  By means of intensive prayer, of confession, of the Holy Communion, we have renewed in our hearts those grace-filled fountains, once opened in us by the Sacrament of Baptism.  Many a time they were polluted by our negligence and failings, and every time cleansed by repentance.  Now, after our latest transgressions, they have been cleansed once again. 

Let us, at least from now onward, strive to keep them from pollution through our carelessness, disregard and neglect of their purity and steady flow of water.  Let us keep fasting, let us keep our emotions in check, let us continue our fervent prayer with tears, let us move on with our charitable work, let us seek to hear the word of God, and ─ most of all ─ to remain in conversation with the Lord who dwells in our souls: that conversation will sustain in us the fear of God and desire to please Him ─ that is, in fact, the fountain of our spiritual life.
