Acts 14:20-27; Jn. 9:39-10:9

And Jesus said, For judgment I am come into this world, that they which see not might see; and that they which see might be made blind” [Jn. 9:39].  “They which see not” ─ that were the simple people who believed in the Lord in the simplicity of their hearts;  “they which see” were the scribes and the learned ones who did not believe out of pride and thwarted the faith of the people.

Our own intellectuals pretend to be among those who see, and thus shun the faith in the Lord, the faith which is firmly held by those who are simple in their minds and hearts.  Therefore, in truth, it is the former who are blind, while the latter can see well.  The intellectuals are just like night owls which see in darkness but have no vision in the daylight.  The truth of Christ seems dark for them, and the opposite to the truth ─ that is, the lie ─ seems to them clear, and they love it.

An obvious thing, yet they are asking: “Are we blind also?”  [Jn. 9:40]  Yes, you are blind indeed.  But since you ought to blame yourselves for being blind, the sin of blindness, of refusal to see the light, is yours.  You are capable of seeing, but you do not want to, having fallen in love with a seductive, deceitful lie.
