Acts 12:12-17; Jn. 8:42-51

Why didn’t the Jews believe in the Lord, as He explained it to them? Because He was telling them the truth.  “Because I tell you the truth, ye believe Me not” [Jn. 8:45].  The lie, so to speak, has become their second nature, and they could not hold the truth any longer.

And what is the source of the disbelief in our days?  It is just the same: the Lord says the truth, and people reject His words for that very reason.  Is that at all possible, as everyone, especially among the scholars, seems to be so much concerned about the truth?  Yes, they do speak of it a lot ─ but do nothing to find it.  All their theories are like spider webs ─ only they don’t realize how flimsy they are.

Those modern theories are created upon no solid ground and developed with no firm proofs: but that’s OK with them.  Groundless assumptions are in such a high demand, that apparently they have nothing else to think about, ─ and yet that is valued as solid scholarship.  Fog of their fantasies covers those few facts which they really have, distorting the facts beyond recognition, ─ and yet that is valued as indisputable truth.   What a rot of mind, what a corruption of its common sense!  Certainly, such a mind cannot hold the truth.  Little wonder if they don’t believe the Lord Who says nothing but truth.
