No Liturgy ─ no New Testament reading appointed
“The fear of God is to hate evil” [Prov. 8:13]; to hate means to get rid of, to cleanse the soul from evil, to make it clean and right before the Lord. And that’s precisely what we are seeking now with such intensity. Therefore, restore the fear of God in your soul, and keep it, and that will be the most powerful medicine for treating your infirmity.
The fear of God will hold you from sinning, and the same fear of God will make you to do good at any occasion. Thus you will see the commandment “Depart from evil and do good” [Ps. 34:14], which the prophet gives to the seekers of true life, fulfilling upon you.
How to attain to fear of God? Seek, and ye shall find. There are no simple instructions to follow: fear of God is a quality of the spirit, it is invisibly born in the heart when it reaches out to the Lord. Thinking about it is helpful, deliberate efforts are also helpful, ─ though actually it is given by God. Seek it as a gift, and, once you receive it, make sure to heed to its voice: it will set right all your wrongs.
