1Cor. 1:26-29; Mt. 20:29-34
The two blind men of Jericho cried out, and the Lord restored sight to them [Mt. 20:29-34]. Were these two the only blind men around? Of course there were other ones as well. Why, then, only these two were healed, and others were not? Because they did not cry out.
They did not cry out because they had no hope; they had no hope because they did not strive to please God; they did not strive to please God because they had little faith. As soon as you get real faith, you will set out to please God, and with that you will gain hope and prayer which effects the help from above. Such people’s prayer is never denied: they know how to ask and what to ask for, they understand the measure of supplication, they are steadfast and patient in their appeal. All these properties are absolutely necessary for a fruitful prayer; without them our prayer has very feeble wings.
