The Fifth Sunday of Lent
Heb. 9:11-14; Mk. 10:32-45
“A woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster vessel of ointment, And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment” [Lk. 7:37-39]. She was not saying a word: her most sincere and tender love for the Lord was fully expressed by what she was doing. For that reason the Lord said about her: “Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much” [Lk. 7:47].
Oh, if only we could, just like her, speak less and do more, if we could manifest our Love for the Lord with our actions! You might say: “If He were right here, I would have done just everything for Him!...” Well, He is right here, invisibly in His own Person, and visibly in the persons of all Christians, especially in those who are in need. Thus, anoint the invisible Lord with a prayer of love from your heart and mind, and for the visible Lord ─ do everything you can for the needy as you would be doing for Him.
