Acts 5:21-33; Jn. 6:14-27

What Sts. Peter and John had earlier said to the Jewish leaders, all the Apostles repeated to them later: “We ought to obey God rather than men.  The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, Whom ye slew and hanged on a tree.  Him hath God exalted with His right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.  And we are His witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey Him” [Acts 5:29-32].

What an earnest, complete, resolved and clear confession of faith!  The Lord ordained that His crucified Son has become our Savior through repentance and forgiveness of sins.  That is witnessed by the Apostles and the Holy Spirit, Who was manifest in them as well as in all believers.

This testimony is valid through our own days.  The words of the holy apostles are just like our own seeing and hearing, and the Spirit of Grace works continually in the Holy Church, in miracles, in conversion of sinners, and most visibly in the change happening to God’s faithful servants, in gifts of Grace and sanctification which they receive.  All that, taken together, forms a solid base for the conviction of the truth of Christ in any soul which has love of the truth.   Give thanks to the Lord of truth Who has shown it to us so clearly!...
