On Tuesday, 19 January the NHL team Philadelphia Flyers were squaring off against the Anaheim Ducks. For some reason, as is all too common in western sports these days, especially ones that have traditionally been the pastime of “Cis-gender,” and even worse, heterosexual males, such as American Football and Ice Hockey, the Flyers team decided to host some kind of bizarre Gay Pride event, forcing the team to wear silly rainbow colored jerseys and have their sticks wrapped in rainbow gay tape. Because reasons. Because inclusivity. Because gays.  The players, being employees of the franchise, were probably not given much option as to whether or not to participate. More than likely, management said, “Wear this.” And everyone did. Except one man. A Russian Man. An Orthodox Man. A Real Man. A man who put his convictions above all else. If ever the West needed an example of how to be a man, Russia has given them one. His name: Ivan Provorov.

Ivan refused to participate in the gay pre-game warm up. When inevitably questioned afterward as to why, without missing a beat he said, “I respect everyone. I respect everybody’s choices. My choice is to stay true to myself and my religion.” When further pressed as to what that religion was, he said, “Russian Orthodox.”

Let’s take a moment here to think about the beating that anything Russian has taken in the last year. How people were denied medical care for having Russian names, some people had bank accounts randomly canceled, Russian children faced basically sanctioned bullying in western schools as teachers would demand the Russian children renounce their Fatherland and turned their heads when other students attacked them. Objects of Russian culture found themselves banned, and Russian artists who did not renounce their Fatherland were in some cases deprived of jobs. Let’s also take a  moment to think of the expansion of aggressive anti-Christian attitudes and policies in the modern West. From making trans-ideology sacrosanct, to the dismissal of anyone who doesn’t merely respect gays living their lives; they must actively cheer-lead for the Lifestyle.

One cannot stay on the sidelines, they have seen to it. Consider the spread of gay ideology in Ukraine and the official support of it by the Zelenksy regime, and the attacks on clerics and churches of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church. And consider how we ourselves here at Global Orthodox have been the victim of canceling and banning simply for reprinting the words of St. John Chrysostomos, one of the most widely accepted and venerated Saints in all of Orthodoxy. It truly is as Patriarch Kirill has said, “The Defeat of Russia Will Cause the End of the World.” Because who is left that is standing up to this poisonous, satanic trash?

It goes without saying that as soon as the words, “religion” and “Russian Orthodox” left Ivan’s lips, the media began to foam at the mouth. One “journalist” in particular, Sid Seixeiro had this not only to say about Ivan, but apparently all people of faith who take a stand everywhere:

"Nothing scares me more than any human being who says I’m not doing this because of my religious beliefs. Because when you look at people’s lives who normally say that publicly, you’d throw up at what you saw. You would throw up at what you saw. And I’ve seen that a million times in a lot of different ways. So don’t give me that. With respect, don’t gimme that, because no one’s perfect. Don’t feed me the religious beliefs line and all of a sudden the NHL is going to back off this."

Understand Sid is talking about you. You the believer. You scare him. You disgust him. You make him want to vomit. And he considers you, if you can read between the lines, a threat. Why is that exactly? And what do organizations and governments do to things they consider threats? Do you think people like Sid are more insiders in this culture, or people like you? Can you imagine what would happen to someone if they had said this about trannys, or gays, or any other “protected” class of people? He is allowed to say it about you. His masters agree. They hate you too.

NHL Network senior reporter EJ Hradek said,

“If this is that much of a problem for him to maybe assimilate into his group of teammates and in the community and here in this country- that's okay. Listen, you can feel the way you want, but the beauty is if it bothers you that much, there's always a chance to leave, go back when you feel more comfortable- I understand there's a conflict of sorts going on over there, maybe get involved.”

That’s right Ivan, if it’s a problem for you not to follow everyone else on the team in doing Satan worship, you can always bugger off back to Russia and go fight in Ukraine. (And hopefully die, right EJ?)

Sports writer Rachael Millanta wrote:

"Being LGBT+ is not a ‘choice.’ Being ignorant, obnoxious, and homophobic is a choice. Ivan Provorov wasn't wearing uniform tonight and the @NHLFlyers should not have let him play. Stop letting bigots hide behind their cherry-picked religion. Do better.”

So now you know what she thinks of the Holy Orthodox Faith, Faith in general, and People of Faith. Remember, Provorov may be taking the bullet, but they are shooting at every believer.

The Athletic senior writer Mark Lazeruz quipped, "The Flyers should have scratched Provorov and cited their basic human decency." Which seems to mean that to him despising Christianity is a mark of “basic human decency.”

The hypocrisy here of these people airing their nasty opinions while raking Ivan over the coals for airing his and demanding something "be done" beggars belief. If believers bombarded their bosses with emails demanding something "be done" about their nasty opinions of the Faith, one wonders how the medicine would taste in their mouths that they wish to prescribe to everyone else.

Ironically, because of all the hate sales of jerseys with Provorov’s number on them have been selling like mad since the event, showing the number of fans who must side with Provorov’s stand for his Faith. Sadly, of course, those dollars go right into the coffers of his team, who put the stunt on that hurt Ivan in the first place.

It just goes to show that in the whole world Russia remains a bastion of Faith and Freedom. None of the other team members took a stand against Satan that night, Ivan did. Our Russian Ivan. And he did, on the scale of the NHL, what his home country Russia is doing in the whole world; confronting the Satanic influences of Western culture and the Western war machine and bravely standing in the gap for the rest of the world.
