Ahead of the parliamentary elections in Kosovo and Metohija on February 9, 2025, Metropolitan Theodosios of Raška and Prizren addressed the citizens with a pastoral appeal. He emphasized the importance of holding the elections peacefully and orderly despite the complex situation in the region, as reported by the Serbian Orthodox Church’s website.
In his message, the metropolitan noted that the Serbian people of Kosovo face serious challenges, including security threats, economic decline, and pressure on their cultural and spiritual heritage. Under these conditions, he called for unity around key interests—protecting sacred sites, ensuring quality education and healthcare, and preserving the Serbian language and traditions.
According to him, the Church does not interfere in political processes but urges believers to approach the elections responsibly and support candidates who have public trust, moral integrity, and a commitment to defending the rights of the Serbian community.
The elections in Kosovo are taking place against the backdrop of escalating tensions with Serbia and rising nationalist sentiments. The leading contender in the race remains the "Self-Determination" movement, which advocates for Kosovo's unification with Albania. The campaign has been marred by controversies, particularly in December when authorities refused to register the Serbian party "Serb List," prompting protests from Belgrade.
Metropolitan Theodosios expressed hope that the Serbian population will act responsibly and turn out in large numbers to vote in order to protect their rights and the future of the next generations.
