With the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, the fourth missionary expedition of the Synodal Missionary Department to Sri Lanka began on January 11, 2025.
The group included Acting Chairman of the Synodal Missionary Department, Priest Anthony Kosykh, Deputy Chairman for External Mission, Priest Dionysius Grishkov, as well as a cleric of the Church of the Blessed Grand Duke Alexander Nevsky at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (University) The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Priest Grigory Dumby.
The purpose of the expedition is to strengthen ties between the Orthodox communities of Sri Lanka and the Russian Orthodox Church. The missionaries plan to hold divine services, hold meetings with local residents, and baptize catechumens.
The expedition is timed to coincide with the year of the resumption of the mission. In January 2024, the Synodal Missionary Department revived the mission of the Russian Orthodox Church in Sri Lanka.
