His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia delivered an address on the occasion of Mother's Day.
This holiday is a wonderful opportunity to thank our mothers, express gratitude and respect to them, show active care and love, and say kind words.
Reverence for parents and reverence for them is the most important component of all religions and cultures. According to the word of Holy Scripture, the wife is saved by childbearing (1 Tim. 2:15). Of course, women's contribution to art, science, politics and other spheres of society is significant, but it is motherhood that gives them the opportunity to show the highest human qualities and fully realize their vocation. The service of a woman — a wife and mother — is especially important in these difficult times, when false family "values" are imposed on our people, as well as "ideals" that are alien to us and far from moral norms.
One of the ten commandments of the Lord, contained in the Old Testament, reads: "Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be prolonged on earth" (Exodus 20:12). Thus, the sacred duty of every person is to take care of his parents and support them in every possible way, paying the debt of love and following the Divine regulations.
Congratulating all those involved in this holiday, I wish you good health, good spirits and joy in the Lord.
I invoke the blessing of Christ on all of you.
+KIRILL, PATRIARCH OF MOSCOW AND ALL RUSSIA
