The Bulgarian Orthodox Church marked the feast day of St. Daniel the Stylite, heavenly patron of Bulgarian Patriarch and Metropolitan of Sofia Daniel, with a solemn Divine Liturgy at the capital’s St. Nedelya Cathedral. The service, celebrated by the patriarch himself and concelebrated by hierarchs of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church, drew national leaders, clergy, and hundreds of faithful, according to BTA.

Bulgarian President Rumen Radev attended the liturgy, praising Patriarch Daniel’s role in strengthening the country’s spiritual life. “Your service reflects the steadfast faith and devotion embodied by St. Daniel the Stylite. I believe the saint’s example will inspire all Christians,” the president said in a greeting to the patriarch.

The Holy Synod also extended its congratulations. Metropolitan Joseph of the United States, Canada, and Australia conveyed the Synod’s message, wishing the patriarch health and strength in his spiritual leadership.

Speaking on behalf of the Sofia Diocese, Bishop Ioan of Branitsa emphasized the faithful’s trust in the patriarch’s pastoral guidance. As a sign of respect and support, he presented Patriarch Daniel with a set of archbishop’s vestments. A congratulatory message from the Bulgarian government was also read in the cathedral, offering wishes for wisdom and blessed service.

In his address to those gathered, Patriarch Daniel spoke about the life and ascetic struggles of St. Daniel the Stylite and called for unity among believers. “When we gather in the name of Christ, His grace is revealed in our lives. Let us support one another,” he said.

The celebration was attended by metropolitans and bishops from across the country, abbots of major monasteries, and public figures, including Sofia Mayor Vasil Terziev and leaders of national media outlets.
