Easter celebrations were held across Romania, with the central service taking place at the Patriarchal Cathedral of the Romanian Orthodox Church in Bucharest, where Patriarch Daniel of Romania led the night liturgy and delivered a pastoral message on the significance of the Resurrection of Christ.

According to basilica.ro, the Patriarch described the Resurrection as a “gift to all humanity” that is not a natural phenomenon, but a victory over death and the beginning of eternal life.

Addressing worshippers, Patriarch Daniel emphasized that the Christian understanding of the Resurrection differs from ancient philosophical and religious views, as it affirms not only the immortality of the soul but also the resurrection of the body. He said Christ revealed a “new reality—eternal life,” and stressed that His Resurrection is unique compared to other resurrections described in the Gospels.

Quoting Scripture, he reminded the faithful of Jesus’ words: “I am the resurrection and the life,” adding that belief in the Resurrection lies at the very core of Christian doctrine.

The Patriarch also described Easter as the “feast of feasts,” around which the entire life of the Church is centered, noting that spiritual preparation includes fasting, prayer, and participation in the sacraments.

At the conclusion of the service, Patriarch Daniel thanked state authorities and organizers for ensuring order during the celebrations. Worshippers were also given Easter gifts, including blessed bread and traditional festive food.
