His Holiness Patriarch Porfirije of Serbia has extended birthday greetings to Russian President Vladimir Putin, expressing deep gratitude for his efforts in fostering the centuries-old relationship between the Serbian and Russian peoples, as well as their Orthodox Churches.
In a message published on the official website of the Serbian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Porfirije highlighted President Putin’s "steadfast role in developing the bonds between two brotherly nations and sister Churches throughout the centuries."
"The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos, and the spiritual support of St. Sergius of Radonezh be with you always, granting you good health, wisdom, spiritual strength, love, peace, and joy," the message reads.
The Patriarch thanked President Putin for his ongoing efforts to preserve and deepen the fraternal ties grounded in a shared Orthodox heritage, spiritual tradition, and mutual respect.
The message comes amid ongoing efforts by both countries to reinforce cultural and spiritual connections. In April 2025, Patriarch Porfirije visited Moscow, where he met with President Putin and Patriarch Kirill at the Kremlin. During that meeting, President Putin emphasized the important role of the Serbian Orthodox Church in promoting the warm, allied relations between Russia and Serbia.
President Putin turned 73 this week and received birthday wishes from numerous global leaders, including those from Orthodox Christian countries and longtime allies.
