The Orthodox Church continues to hold the highest level of public trust in Moldova, according to a new sociological survey released by the research company IMAS.

The study, conducted between 18 November and 4 December 2025, shows that 61% of Moldovan citizens trust the Orthodox Church — the strongest confidence rating among all institutions in the country. This level of trust significantly surpasses that of state bodies and political institutions.

Educational institutions, including kindergartens, schools, and universities, ranked second with a trust level of 53%. Local public authorities follow with 39%.

Among national political institutions, trust remains considerably lower. The presidency is trusted by 28% of respondents, the government by 20%, and the parliament by 18%. Trust in the media stands at 16%, while the judiciary receives support from only 12% of the population. Political parties rank last with an approval rating of just 4%.

The survey sampled 1,123 respondents aged 18 and older across 87 localities in the Republic of Moldova. IMAS regularly publishes socio-political barometers and public opinion polls covering a wide range of topics — from institutional trust to electoral preferences and socio-economic assessments. Throughout 2025, the company released several barometers (including those conducted in May, July, and December), allowing analysts to track shifts in public attitudes over time.

These data are frequently used in public discourse to assess societal trends. For example, according to IMAS’s socio-political barometer, 87% of Moldovans believe the country is experiencing economic hardship. More than half of respondents rate Moldova’s economic situation as poor or very poor, with rising concerns about unemployment and declining living standards. At the same time, the surveys indicate cautious expectations for change, with some citizens placing their hopes for improvement on external factors as well as the actions of political and civil institutions.
