During his visit to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin visited the only Orthodox church in the country, Holy Trinity Church in Pyongyang, on June 19, reports Патриархия.ги .
The Russian President's motorcade was greeted with a ringing of bells. On the threshold of the temple, the head of the Russian state was greeted and warmly welcomed by Archbishop Feofan of Korea. Vladyka introduced the Chairman of the Orthodox Committee of the DPRK, Viktor Yu, and the clergy of Holy Trinity Church, Priest Vladimir Zhang, Deacon Pavel Pak and Deacon George Yun to the head of the Russian state.
Vladimir Putin then proceeded to the temple, where the head of the Korean diocese told the distinguished guest about the history of the Russian ecclesiastical Mission in Korea, as well as about the stages of construction of an Orthodox church in Pyongyang.
The choir of the Holy Trinity Parish performed the temple troparion and kontakion, after which many years were proclaimed to the head of the Russian state.
The President of Russia donated an icon of the Holy Trinity to the temple.

The decision to build an Orthodox church in Pyongyang was made in 2002 during the visit of North Korean leader Kim Jong Il to Russia, after visiting the church of St. Innocent of Irkutsk in Khabarovsk.
On June 24, 2003, Archbishop Clement of Kaluga and Borovsk consecrated the first stone of the new church. The temple project was developed by Korean experts in the field of Russian temple architecture. The construction was carried out mainly at the expense of the DPRK budget, the assistance of the Primorsky Territory administration and some Russian businessmen. The utensils, icons and bells were handed over by the Russian Orthodox Church.
In June 2006, the Chairman of the Orthodox Committee of the DPRK, George Ho Il Zin, addressed to His Holiness Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Russia, an appeal was received for the church to be accepted into the bosom of the Russian Orthodox Church, which was granted by the Holy Synod in July of the same year.
On August 13, 2006, the solemn consecration of the church took place, which was headed by Metropolitan Kirill of Smolensk and Kaliningrad, now Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia.
In 2015, the temple was painted by icon painters from Russia. The temple is part of the Korean Diocese, established in 2019.
