Supporters of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church have regained the temple in Vyshgorod, Kiev region, driving away the raiders of the schismatic Orthodox Church of Ukraine. This was reported by the Union of Orthodox Journalists (SPJ).
"In Vyshgorod, the Panteleimon community managed to seize the keys, drove out the raiders and returned the temple," a statement on the SPJ website says.
Earlier, the SPJ reported that the OCU raiders seized the temple, and the police and security Service representatives who were present "supported the invaders."
Shortly after the capture of the Panteleimon Church in Vyshgorod by the "priests" of the OCU on February 24, 2024, the community drove out the invaders, managed to take possession of the keys and regained the shrine, the telegram channel "Dozor" reports.
About 60 parishioners came to their church in the morning to defend the church. "Go away, no one called you here!" the parishioners of the Panteleimon Church told the "priests" of the PCU Klos and Bolshakov. Then people were able to enter the territory. The abbot Dionysius Denisenko was given the keys to the "pcushny" lock. People entered their temple and celebrated a thanksgiving service.
In recent years, the Ukrainian authorities have been pursuing an open course to ban the UOC. The local authorities deprive the canonical church of the right to lease land for temples, with their encouragement, supporters of the OCU, created in 2018 from two schismatic religious structures, seize churches of the UOC, attack priests. According to the latest data, since February last year, 68 criminal cases have been opened against the priests of the UOC by the Security Service of Ukraine, sanctions have been imposed against 17 clerics, and 19 hierarchs have been deprived of the country's citizenship. Despite this, according to the State Service for Ethnopolitics and Freedom of Conscience of Ukraine, at least 5-6 million residents remain parishioners of the UOC in the country.
