In August, an Orthodox camp for children and youth successfully concluded in Burundi, organized by the Patriarchal Exarchate of Africa. The camp brought together parishes from the cities of Rumonge, Burambi, Bujumbura, and the village of Magara. Alongside spiritual and educational activities, the Exarchate provided humanitarian aid, distributing hygiene supplies and school materials to the young participants.
The mission of the Patriarchal Exarchate of Africa in Burundi began in February 2023, when two priests and their congregations transferred from the Patriarchate of Alexandria to the Russian Orthodox Church. Since then, the number of Orthodox Christians in Burundi has grown significantly. In May of this year, 23 new members were received into the Orthodox Church at the parish of St. Sergius of Radonezh in Rumonge.
Last year, Orthodox prayer books were published in Kirundi, the primary language of the country. Additionally, Burundian Orthodox students were admitted to the Moscow Theological Academy. In July 2024, the "Union of Orthodox Mothers" was founded in Burundi, focusing on the catechization and mutual support of the laity.
