The first practical lesson of the Don School of Mercy project was devoted to topical topics: features of hygienic procedures for the care of the seriously injured, prevention of bedsores, changing diapers, moving patients to beds, changing bed linen and underwear, working with urinals, as well as issues of infectious safety (processing equipment, hands and tools).
The lesson was conducted by hospital volunteers and sisters of mercy Anna Kerimova, Svetlana Skripkina and Ekaterina Shapovalova. Volunteers from the Southwestern Deanery took part. The next meeting is scheduled for December 5th.

The Don School of Mercy project is being implemented with the blessing of Metropolitan Mercury of Rostov and Novocherkassk as part of the activities of the Diocesan Department for Church Charity and Social Service.

The project began its work in 2017 with the support of the Central City Hospital No. 1 and the Rostov Clinical Hospital of the Federal State Budgetary Healthcare Institution "Southern District Medical Center of the Federal Medical and Biological Agency". Its main purpose is to train nurses and volunteers, while an important aspect of the educational program is classes on the spiritual foundations of charity.

Now the project has become especially relevant due to the need to train volunteers to work with patients in need of care, including patients with limited mobility, injured and palliative patients. The program provides not only basic training for hospital volunteers and practical skills development, but also specialized classes for families who care for patients after strokes, injuries or wounds. The mentors of the school teach the correct methods of patient care, which allows not only to minimize discomfort for patients, but also to take care of the health of caregivers.

Practical classes are held in a specially equipped classroom located in one of the offices of the social department of the diocese at the Church of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The office is equipped with everything necessary: beds for bedridden patients, equipment for feeding and care.
