On October 5, 2024, His Holiness Patriarch Porfirije of Serbia led a special liturgy at Holy Trinity Serbian Orthodox Church in Montreal to commemorate the 70th anniversary of its consecration. The cathedral, which has been a spiritual center for the Serbian community in Quebec since 1954, marked this significant milestone with a series of celebrations.
Joining Patriarch Porfirije were Canadian hierarchs from various dioceses, led by Metropolitan Mitrofan of Canada, as well as bishops from the American and Romanian Orthodox Churches. During the service, the Patriarch highlighted the cathedral's role in uniting the Serbian community and preserving its national and spiritual values for generations.
Holy Trinity Cathedral houses a Serbian school named after Saint Sava, the cultural association "Avala," the Stevan Jorgovic library, and a church choir. The Circle of Serbian Sisters, which aids those in need across Serbian regions, also plays a significant role in the church's community efforts.
In his address, Patriarch Porfirije thanked the congregation for their dedication to maintaining the Orthodox faith and Serbian culture in Canada. "Your church is a piece of the Heavenly Kingdom, but also a fragment of our homeland," he said, emphasizing the spiritual bond between Serbia and its diaspora worldwide.
