According to the information published in the monastery's telegram channel, at about 22 o'clock on May 16, buses with police and military arrived at the Tithe Church. Later, a message appeared that law enforcement officers were trying to detain the monks of the monastery.The telegram channel "Watch on Pershom Kozatsky" reported that the entire territory of the National Museum of the History of Ukraine was cordoned off by police officers and people in military uniforms. All approaches and stairs were blocked and blocked. The brethren of the Tithe Monastery were not allowed to enter the Vladimir-Olginsky temple, and one priest, who wanted to take out the list of the icon of the Mother of God "Vladimirskaya-Desyatinnaya" from the destroyed building, police representatives began to twist his arms, and he had to leave the monastery territory.
Soon, empty dump trucks arrived at the territory of the National Museum of the History of Ukraine.
At 23.28, Archpriest Nikita Chekman, a lawyer and clergyman of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, wrote on his telegram channel that the temple had begun to be destroyed with the help of special equipment. Eyewitnesses shared information that mobile communications had been turned off in this area.
Shortly after midnight, trucks began removing the wreckage of the demolished church. The fact of the destruction of the temple was confirmed by the telegram channel of the Tithe Monastery. By morning, there was an empty playground. Only one bronze image survived, which was mounted in the wall.

As reported by the SPJ, on September 14, 2023, the Kiev Court of Appeal denied an appeal to the community of the Tithe Monastery in Kiev and ordered the authorities to demolish the temple. The Ministry of Culture of Ukraine stated that the temple building "violates the ensemble of the historical archaeological complex "Tithe Church"", and the very construction of the church next to the foundation of the historical Tithe Church "contradicts the intended use" of the land.
At the end of April 2024, the Tithe Monastery received a letter from the state executive that on May 7, on Tuesday of Holy Week, the process of dismantling the temple building would begin. The lawyer of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Archpriest Nikita Chekman, said that the night demolition of the Tithe Monastery was illegal, since no documents were attached to the Unified Register of Enforcement Proceedings regarding the dismantling of the shrine. The religious community has also not received any documents on this matter.
In addition, the response of the Central Interregional Department of the Ministry of Justice to the complaint of the lawyers of the Tithe Monastery against the illegal actions of the state executor was published. "We ask you to objectively and comprehensively verify the facts set out in the appeal, establish the causes and conditions that contributed to the violations, and immediately take measures to eliminate them. If it is recognized as unfounded, explain the procedure for appealing the decision taken on it," the officials of the department wrote. The response based on the results of the inspection should be given by May 24, however, the dismantling of the temple took place before that date.
