In the Povardarie Diocese of the Macedonian Orthodox Church – Ohrid Archbishopric, the feast day of Blessed Saint Xenia of St. Petersburg was prayerfully observed. The celebrations took place at the Church of the Great Martyr Demetrius in the city of Kavadarci, where the Divine Liturgy was served. The service was led by Metropolitan Agathangel of Povardarie, with the concelebration of the diocesan clergy.
According to the diocese’s website, on the eve of the feast, an Akathist hymn to the saint was performed in the church, and believers brought five-leaf clovers for blessing—according to Macedonian tradition, this symbol is associated with prayers for health and well-being. On the day of Saint Xenia’s commemoration, a special prayer service (Moleben) was held after the Liturgy, followed by the blessing of festal loaves.
For the occasion, the Povardarie Diocese published a new book about the life of Saint Xenia. The edition includes prayers, an Akathist, and testimonies of miracles attributed to her intercession. In the foreword, Metropolitan Agathangel emphasized that saints unite Orthodox Christians, transcending borders and differences. Saint Xenia is venerated not only in Russia but throughout the world, and her spiritual feat and assistance continue to inspire believers in many countries.
Saint Xenia of St. Petersburg, who lived in the 18th century, chose the path of foolishness for Christ’s sake after the early death of her husband. Many considered her insane, but her prayers and prophecies brought comfort to countless people. Today, her name is known throughout the Orthodox world, and numerous testimonies of miraculous help continue to strengthen people's faith.
The publication of the book marks another step in honoring the saint within the Macedonian Church. Metropolitan Agathangel encouraged the faithful not only to pray to Saint Xenia but also to strive to emulate her humility and selflessness.
