Podolsk Diocese hosted a seminar on creating an accessible environment

A seminar on creating an accessible environment was held at the Church of the Martyrs Flora and Laurus in the village of Yam, Domodedovo district (Podolsk Diocese). The event was organized by the Synodal Department for Church Charity and Social Service and the Social Department of the Podolsk Diocese.
The event was attended by more than 20 people — Priest Alexander Rulnikov, Chairman of the social department of the Podolsk Diocese, Veronika Leontieva, head of the department of assistance to people with disabilities of the Synodal Department of Charity, Sergey Chisty, Chairman of the Board of the City for All Charitable Foundation, expert of the Synodal Department of Charity, those responsible for social service in the deaneries of the diocese, their assistants, social workers employees and volunteers.


Priest Alexander Rulnikov addressed the audience with a welcoming speech.
The seminar participants discussed the issues of adapting churches and monasteries to the opportunities of people with disabilities and providing situational assistance to parishioners with limited mobility.
In the first part of the seminar, Veronika Leontieva and Sergey Chisty made presentations. In the second part, a practical lesson took place: using the example of the church of the Martyrs Florus and Laurus, the possibilities of providing situational assistance to people with visual impairment and people in wheelchairs were shown.
The seminar was also attended by two wheelchair users who shared their experiences on the topic of the seminar. 
There are over 400 Orthodox organizations in Russia today that help children and adults with disabilities.
