On October 4, the presentation of a new fundamental scientific monograph by B.A. Postnikov and A.B. Postnikov "The Church and clergy of Pskov during the reforms of 1666-1764" will take place in the Pogankin Chambers of the Pskov Museum-Reserve. The study of the Pskov Church and the clergy of this period was carried out for the first time.
Russian Russian cities have been holding on to the old traditions of the conciliar administration of the Church, going back to the times of the Veche system, which underwent radical changes during the reforms of the Russian Church in 1666-1764. In the historiography of Pskov, these changes, which caused the tragic phenomenon of Schism and developed by Peter's state transformations and secularization, have remained completely unexplored until now.
The composition and dynamics of the number of church facilities operating in Pskov at that time, as well as the personal composition of the clergy serving in them, were not considered. Meanwhile, the identification by name of the "spiritual ranks of people": from the servants of the Trinity Episcopal House and the inhabitants of Pskov monasteries to the sacred and ecclesiastical clergy of all urban and suburban churches without exception, is of particular importance, since without taking into account their personal destinies it is impossible to study the formation of the local spiritual estate.
The completed work is based on a wide range of archival sources involved, introduced into scientific circulation for the first time, as a result of which it became possible to significantly replenish the history of the city monasteries and parish churches operating in those years with new data; to identify the nominal composition of the monasticism and white clergy found in them; to consider the activities of the Pskov bishops and their personal contribution to the organization of church life in the city, which is considered in the monograph with all possible completeness.
Russian Russian Orthodox Church historians, archaeologists, local historians, guides, clergy, specialists in the history of the Russian Orthodox Church, all lovers of Russian antiquity and Russian spiritual culture are interested in the results of the study. In addition, they are of practical importance for the study and restoration of monuments of ancient Russian architecture, since the work contains new detailed information about more than 150 churches, monasteries and their courtyards in Pskov and the suburbs.
