On May 13, 2026, the day of the glorification of the Cathedral of Saints of the Stavropol Metropolia, a meeting of representatives of the commissions for the canonization of saints of the Stavropol and Kuban metropolitans was held in Stavropol. The main topic of the meeting was the preparation of materials dedicated to the holy ministry and ascetic life of the first Bishop of the Caucasus and the Black Sea Jeremiah (Solovyov).
The meeting was attended by the chairman of the Commission for the canonization of saints of the Stavropol Diocese, the scientific secretary of the Stavropol Theological Seminary, Priest Evgeny Shishkin, the chairman of the Commission for the canonization of saints of the Yeysk Diocese, Abbess of the Mary Magdalene Convent of the Rogovskaya village of the Krasnodar Territory, Abbess Tavifa (Zoro), as well as a member of the Commission for the canonization of saints of the Yeysk Diocese, N.V. Kiyashko.
The meeting participants discussed the progress of research work related to the study of Bishop Jeremiah's life and legacy. Abbess Tavifa (Zoro) noted that over the past two years, an active search for documents has been conducted in the largest federal and regional archives. Hundreds of materials have already been identified that testify to the ascetic life, spiritual authority and ecclesiastical significance of the saint. Bishop Jeremiah spent the last 27 years of his life as a hermit in the monasteries of the Nizhny Novgorod diocese.
Preparations for the publication of a collection of Bishop Jeremiah's correspondence with prominent church and state figures are currently being completed under the leadership of Abbess Tabitha. Among his correspondents are Metropolitan Filaret of Moscow (Drozdov), Metropolitan Filaret of Kiev (Amfiteatrov), Metropolitan Gregory of St. Petersburg (Postnikov), Metropolitan Macarius (Bulgakov), St. Theophan the Recluse, Caucasian Bishops Theophylact (Gubin) and Herman (Osetsky), as well as other famous representatives of the church history of the XIX century.
The meeting participants paid special attention to the work already carried out to preserve the memory of the first bishop of the Caucasus. An important milestone was the All-Russian Scientific Conference "The Russian Orthodox Church in the History of the South and North Caucasus", held on November 12, 2024 in Krasnodar as part of the celebration of the 140th anniversary of Bishop Jeremiah's repose.
Priest Evgeny Shishkin spoke about the experience of research work on the biography of Bishop Theophylact (Gubin) of the Caucasus and the Black Sea, who corresponded with St. Jeremiah.
Following the meeting, the representatives of the commissions determined a plan for further joint work for 2026-2027. It provides for the continuation of archival research and the preparation of materials necessary for a more complete study of the life, ministry and spiritual legacy of the first Bishop of the Caucasus and the Black Sea Jeremiah (Solovyov).
