To date, residents of the Orenburg and Kurgan regions need help the most in the flood zone. According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations on April 19, 2024, more than 15 thousand residential buildings were flooded in the Orenburg region, and about 2 thousand in the Kurgan region. Employees of church social services help in temporary accommodation facilities: they distribute food packages, provide victims with everything they need and provide targeted assistance. For example, from April 7 to April 14, the staff of the humanitarian aid center of the Orenburg Diocese gave more than 20 tons of food, 2.5 tons of hygiene products, 2 tons of bottled water to the victims.
"Now we are helping the victims who are in temporary accommodation, but even more support will be needed when the water finally goes away and people return to uninhabitable homes. It will be necessary to drain the living quarters, buy furniture and simple household appliances, because for many people almost everything has fallen into disrepair. We will pay special attention to those who are most in need — the elderly, people with disabilities, and large families," says Irina Khudyakova, a representative of the Orthodox Mercy Service, Sister of Mercy.
The Mercy Service is the largest Orthodox social organization in Russia. These are 25 projects to help the most defenseless: orphans, the elderly, the sick, people with disabilities, single mothers. In just a year, the Mercy service helps more than 30,000 people in need.
It is not the first time that the Orthodox help service has been supported by the viewers of the show "The Voice". In 2015, during the SMS voting, viewers collected more than 20 million rubles, in 2017 — almost 10 million. The funds were spent on caring for seriously ill wards of the service at home and in hospitals, helping families of terminally ill children, pregnant women, and supporting people in a crisis situation, including the homeless.
The Charity service organizes fundraising for the benefit of victims in the flood zone on the platform "Let's Help", created by the Synodal Department for Church Charity and Social Service. On the mirom website.help can support various collections of verified church social organizations. During the year of its existence, "Let's Help" managed to raise more than 55 million rubles for charity projects.
