Seventeen servicemen started the Holy Chalice before going on a combat mission. In the Kursk border region, on one of the most tense sections of the front, military priest Archpriest Yevgeny Chumachenko shared everyday life with the personnel of the Ministry of Defense and the Russian Guard.
The pastoral visit began with a prayer service for soldiers going to battle and a special prayer for Holy Russia. After sprinkling the building with holy water, communication with the priest turned into a format of personal and general conversations. In conditions of constant combat readiness, the fighters inevitably have questions that require a direct and honest pastoral answer.
The main outcome of the meeting was the celebration of the Sacraments: seventeen people confessed and took Holy Communion, consciously entrusting their lives to God. Before being sent to the positions, Father Evgeny handed over crosses, prayer books, Kazan icons of the Mother of God and chevrons with the image of the Virgin Mary "The Indestructible Wall" to the soldiers.
The chevron with the holy face on the uniform and the cross on the chest are not an army amulet, but a sign of an informed choice. By combining hard military labor with repentance and Communion, a warrior acquires that very "indestructible wall" of inner fortitude that cannot be broken through either by fear or enemy fire.
