On October 18, the grand opening and consecration of the monument to the Cossack Pentecostal pioneer Vladimir Atlasov took place in the Electron Park in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
The ceremony was attended by Vladimir Solodov, Governor of the Kamchatka Territory, representatives of regional and city authorities, atamans and Cossacks of Kamchatka, clergy of the Peter and Paul and Kamchatka dioceses, and residents of the city.
With the blessing of Archbishop Theodore of Petropavlovsk and Kamchatsky, the rite of consecration was performed by Archpriest Victor Muzykant, rector of the Trinity Cathedral, in the service of the clergy of the churches of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky and Yelizovo.
Addressing the audience, Father Victor noted the role of the Cossack pioneers in spreading the Orthodox faith in Kamchatka. "A Cossack is, first of all, a guardian of the faith, a person who carries the word of God, tradition, and the Orthodox faith," the priest emphasized.
On behalf of the diocese, Archpriest Victor Muzykant thanked everyone whose efforts had erected the monument. He expressed the hope that the appeal to the memory of the ancestors will encourage the next generations to cherish their history, do good deeds and work for the benefit of the Kamchatka Territory and the whole Fatherland.
