On September 2, 2026, the 39th Moscow International Book Fair (MIFF-2026) opened in Gostiny Dvor in Moscow.
The Publishing House of the Moscow Patriarchate presents new spiritual and educational Orthodox literature, books for children, adolescent and youth audiences, and educational publications at the 39th Moscow International Book Fair. The central place in the exhibition is occupied by editions of the works of the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church.
The publishing house introduces readers to the new book by His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, "War. Beyond apparent cause and effect."
The Primate's book is devoted to the metaphysics of war. Concepts such as "sacrifice", "feat", "patriotism", "victory" and others are considered from a special spiritual point of view. His Holiness speaks about the redemptive meaning and consequences of the war, about the metaphysical frontiers and goal-setting of Russia, and about the racial aspect of the war. Since everything in the world stems from the contact of good and evil, the outcome of the war is determined by God, and whoever is on the side of the light wins. Our earthly vocation is to be warriors of the Lord, to resist evil and defend high moral ideals. While affirming that the Russian people have the power to win, the Primate points out at the same time the great responsibility not to shy away from the historical obligation to be victorious.
The publishing House of the Moscow Patriarchate publishes the largest collection of works by the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church. Among them is a collection of the works of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill. The publication contains the words and speeches of the Primate on topical issues of church and social life. The publication is essentially a church chronicle of our days, showing how the rebirth of Holy Russia takes place through overcoming unrest, struggles and achievements. The meeting consists of thematic series dedicated to one or another area of activity of the Primate. Russian Russian Orthodox Church, teaching, preaching, ministering to the All-Russian flock, spiritual enlightenment, public and missionary service to the Church, promotion of Orthodox cooperation, and the implementation of the external mission of the Russian Orthodox Church. The materials of the series allow us to reveal many facets of His Holiness' works, such as serving as Primate of the Russian Church, teaching, preaching, ministering to the All-Russian flock, spiritual enlightenment, social and missionary service to the Church, promoting Orthodox cooperation, and fulfilling the external mission of the Russian Orthodox Church.
The forum presents thematic publications devoted to individual aspects of the Primatial ministry. Based on his deep knowledge and understanding of the most important problems of our time, His Holiness addresses the faithful with words of edification based on both patristic and his personal spiritual experience.
His Holiness's book "Women's Ministry: Family, Church, Society" is among such publications. The book tells about the ministry of women of the Church, from the time of the Gospel to the present day. Speaking about the role of Orthodox Christians in the fate of the Fatherland, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill recalls the Equal-to-the-Apostles Grand Duchess Olga, the wife of the Baptist of Russia, Princess Anna, St. Euphrosyne of Moscow, Ekaterina Dashkova, Abbess of the Spaso-Borodino Monastery Maria (Tuchkova) and other outstanding women who worked hard for the benefit of Russia. An example of special service, according to His Holiness the Patriarch, is the feat of the Holy Martyr Elizabeth Feodorovna. Separate chapters are devoted to the activities of Orthodox women today: social service, child rearing, preservation and strengthening of spiritual and moral values.
The book of His Holiness the Patriarch "The Spiritual field of Russian culture. Aphorisms and short sayings" has a small format and invariably attracts the attention of readers. Russian culture is an original way and form of expression of spiritual and moral values, historical experience of the multinational people of Russia. The book contains selected sayings of His Holiness the Patriarch about the uniqueness of Russian culture, about the role of the Church in its preservation and development. It also includes quotations from the Holy Scriptures, the instructions of the holy fathers, and the judgments of famous people that the Primate uses in his teachings.
The book of His Holiness Vladyka "On Meanings" is presented at the forum. The publication contains many important thoughts of His Holiness, which touch on key topics of both church and secular life. At the same time, the central question for the Primate is the question of meanings. Today, many phenomena and even concepts have different meanings, and it can be difficult to break through to their true meaning. Whatever phenomenon is being discussed — the ideal of Holy Russia, the meaning of medical service, or the Internet as a representation of the spiritual world of human civilization — the Patriarch considers primarily its spiritual and religious meaning. This approach allows us to see the meaning of what is happening and fill our lives with Christian content, calling for a rethinking of beliefs, a renewal of faith and devotion to Christ.
The publishing house presents a large selection of calendar and liturgical publications for 2027. These include desktop calendars of various formats, detachable Patriarchal calendars, diaries, large-format wall gift editions; A2 wall flip calendar with images of icons of the Mother of God "Healer of Our Souls and Bodies"; A3 church calendar dedicated to the 700th anniversary of the repose of St. Peter, Metropolitan of Kiev and All Russia, the Wonderworker of Moscow.. The artistic basis of this calendar was a masterpiece of ancient Russian painting — the hagiographic image of St. Peter by Dionysius. Wall-mounted children's leaf calendar "A year with God". Bright children's illustrations and a convenient annual calendar grid help the child easily navigate the church rhythm of life.
For soldiers, the Publishing House of the Moscow Patriarchate offers the "Prayer Book of the Orthodox Warrior" and the "Holy Gospel of Mark" (in Russian, in synodal translation). The prayer book "Mothers, wives, sisters, we pray for warriors" is also presented. This small book contains prayer texts that are needed today primarily by those who are waiting for their loved ones who have been called to the front and are praying for them. These books are released in a single format, the size of a military ID.
The Patriarchal Publishing House presents many bright, beautifully designed publications for children. The book series "Grandfather's Tales and Stories" is presented at the forum by a new edition of the Russian folk tale "Kolobok", which teaches children to be obedient, modest and careful. The book is colorfully illustrated by the artist E. Babok.
The 39th Moscow International Book Fair will last until September 6th inclusive.
