Employees of the military enlistment office detained the rector of the parish in honor of St. Basil the Great in the village of Korchevtsy in the Glybok deanery of the Chernivtsi diocese of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC). The Union of Orthodox Journalists announced this on the Telegram channel.
According to him, at the moment the priest is already at one of the military training grounds in the region.
In Ukraine, clergy are not exempt from general mobilization if they are subject to it by age and health status. However, at the end of 2024, the Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers allowed the booking of priests of "critically important religious organizations," and in early June, a list of more than 7,7 thousand such organizations was approved. Local media immediately noticed that, with a few exceptions, there are no communities and parishes of the UOC, while communities of the schismatic Orthodox Church of Ukraine, the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, and even religious organizations with dubious reputations are widely represented. The authorities explained that the decision to include religious organizations in the list of critically important ones was made on the basis of "special criteria."
