The heads of three Christian churches met in Damascus to discuss the situation of Christians in the Middle East, developments in Syria, and ways to support local Christian communities, according to the official website of the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Antioch.
The meeting was chaired by Patriarch John X of Antioch and All the East. Also in attendance were Melkite Greek Catholic Patriarch Joseph I and Syriac Orthodox Patriarch Ignatius Aphrem II.
The church leaders condemned the terrorist attack on St. George's Church in Jordan's Karak Governorate. They also addressed the situation in Syria, including reports of renewed attacks, allegedly unjustified dismissals, the seizure of property belonging to some citizens, and delays in judicial proceedings involving detainees.
Particular attention was given to the country's worsening economic conditions and the rising cost of living, which continue to place significant pressure on Syrian families. The patriarchs discussed possible ways to support Christian communities amid growing concerns about their present circumstances and future in the region.
The meeting concluded with a joint prayer for peace in Syria, throughout the Middle East, and across the world.
