On October 24, 2026, on the feast of the Optina Saints Cathedral, the great consecration of the Holy Trinity Cathedral took place in Balakovo, Saratov region. With the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, the rite of consecration and the Divine Liturgy were led by Metropolitan Nikander of Vladimir and Suzdal, Chairman of the Financial and Economic Department of the Moscow Patriarchate.
His Eminence was co-served by Metropolitan Ignatius of Saratov and Volsky, Bishop Innokenty of Balakovo and Nikolaevsk, Bishop Tarasy of Balashovsky and Rtishchevsky, Bishop Theodore of Pokrovsky and Novouzensky, rector of the cathedral Archimandrite Ambrose (Volkov) and the clergy.
The liturgical hymns were performed by the Episcopal Mixed Choir of the Intercession Cathedral of Saratov under the direction of A.A. Konkova. A procession took place around the temple. During the Liturgy, a prayer was offered for Holy Russia.
At the end of the service, Bishop Innocent congratulated the faithful and thanked His Holiness Patriarch Kirill and Metropolitan Nikander. In memory of the consecration of the cathedral, the ruling bishop presented Vladyka Nikander with an icon of the Holy Trinity.
Metropolitan Nikander conveyed the Patriarchal blessing to the participants of the celebrations and noted that the restored church had found a new life. Vladyka thanked all those who participated in its revival and presented awards to the benefactors.
"After all, everything in our lives is transitory, and only in the temple of God do we find eternal, valuable things that we can take with us to meet Christ," the archpastor emphasized.
Holy Trinity Cathedral was built in the early 20th century by architect F.O. Shekhtel at the expense of the merchant-Old Believer A.M. Maltsev. During the Soviet years, the building was used as a theater and a cultural center and underwent significant alterations. His return to church life began in 1989, and in 2022 the church received the status of the cathedral of the newly formed Balakovo diocese. The restoration, painting and landscaping took place with the support of PhosAgro.
On the same day, Metropolitan Nikander consecrated the spiritual and educational center in the restored Maltsev estate. The historic complex houses diocesan departments and administrative services, an educational center and a Sunday school. The restoration of the estate was carried out at the expense of the Federal Agency for Ethnic Affairs; PhosAgro helped with the equipment of the premises and the restoration of the tea house.
A festive fair and a concert were held on the territory of the cathedral. The celebrations ended with a shared meal.
