The sixth edition of the Metropolitan Amfilohije Days, a cultural and educational program dedicated to the legacy of one of Montenegro’s most influential Orthodox Church figures, has opened in the capital, Podgorica.

The program began in the crypt of the Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ with the presentation of The Spirit Breathes Where It Wills, a book by Metropolitan Joanikije, the current head of the Metropolitanate of Montenegro and the Littoral.

The presentation featured contributions from priest Nikola Pejović, professor Lidija Tomić, writer Budimir Dubak and publisher Radomir Uljarević. The musical program included performances by folk singer Maksim Vojvodić and the Children’s Choir of St. Mark the Apostle and Evangelist.

The new volume brings together Metropolitan Joanikije’s theological, literary and philosophical writings. Among the subjects explored are the works of Petar II Petrović-Njegoš, the Montenegrin poet and ruler; the Orthodox spiritual tradition; and the history of the chapel on Mount Lovćen.

A separate section is devoted to the spiritual legacy of Metropolitan Amfilohije, who led the Metropolitanate of Montenegro and the Littoral from 1990 until his death in 2020.

Speaking at the presentation, Metropolitan Joanikije described Amfilohije as the spiritual father and mentor of his flock, highlighting his contributions to theology and poetry. He characterized the new publication as a modest addition to the extensive spiritual and cultural heritage left by his predecessor.

The Metropolitan Amfilohije Days will continue through October 31, with events taking place in Podgorica and Cetinje. The program includes book presentations, cultural evenings and church services.

On October 30, marking the sixth anniversary of Amfilohije’s death, a hierarchical Divine Liturgy and a memorial service will be held at the Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ in Podgorica.

The annual event commemorates Amfilohije’s religious and cultural contributions and provides a forum for exploring his influence on Montenegro’s Orthodox Christian community and intellectual life.
