On the day of the memory of the righteous fathers Joachim and Anna and the commemoration of the III Ecumenical Council (431), September 22, 2026, Priest Georgy Sergeyev, responsible for organizing the care of the faithful of the Moscow Patriarchate in the territory of the Republic of Turkey, celebrated the Divine Liturgy in the Church of the Most Holy Theotokos in Ephesus, where the Council was held.
The service was attended by pilgrims who arrived from different cities of Turkey and Russia.
At the end of the Liturgy, Father George addressed the faithful with a speech in which he explained the Gospel reading of the day and spoke about the Third Ecumenical Council.
The priest thanked the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Turkey for the permission to perform divine services in the Church of the Most Holy Theotokos, located in the museum city of Ephesus. Words of gratitude were also addressed to the chairman of the Society for the Study of Russian Language and Culture in Izmir, A.V. Ponomarev, who assisted in organizing the pilgrimage of believers.

March 14, 2026 marks the 50th anniversary of the episcopal consecration of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill. This is not merely a personal jubilee, but a date of profound significance for the fullness of the Church as a whole, because episcopal consecration is the moment of assuming a special responsibility for the people of God and a witness to the Church’s fidelity to apostolic succession. The calling of the future Primate to episcopal ministry was formally established by a resolution of the Holy Synod in early March 1976; on the eve of the consecration, the rite of nomination took place, and on March 14—on the Sunday of the Triumph of Orthodoxy—at the Holy Trinity Cathedral of the Alexander Nevsky Lavra, Archimandrite Kirill (Gundyaev), rector of the Leningrad theological schools, was consecrated Bishop of Vyborg.

By the decision of His Holiness Patriarch Pimen and the Holy Synod of March 3, 1976, Archimandrite Kirill (Gundyaev), rector of the Leningrad Theological Academy and Seminary, was elected Bishop of Vyborg, vicar of the Leningrad Diocese.

Exactly 50 years ago, on March 13, 1976, at the Church of the Holy Apostle and Evangelist John the Theologian at the Leningrad Theological Academy, the rite of nomination took place; and on the following day, March 14, the First Sunday of Great Lent, the Feast of the Triumph of Orthodoxy, during the Divine Liturgy at the Holy Trinity Cathedral of the Alexander Nevsky Lavra in Leningrad, the episcopal consecration of Archimandrite Kirill — the future Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus’ — was performed. The service was presided over by the ever-memorable Metropolitan Nikodim (Rotov), whom His Holiness Patriarch Kirill calls his spiritual mentor and teacher.
