A historic church in the Georgian village of Didi-Kldeisi, in the Tetritskaro municipality, has been consecrated following restoration work.

Local authorities identify the church as dating to the 10th century. It has been dedicated as the Church of the Dormition of the Mother of God. The consecration ceremony took place on the feast of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, according to the municipal press service.

The rite was led by Metropolitan Anania of Manglisi and Tetritskaro. Afterward, the hierarch and clergy of the diocese celebrated a festive Divine Liturgy inside the church. Representatives of the municipal administration also attended the ceremony.

The building is regarded as a monument of medieval Georgian architecture and is generally dated to the 10th–11th centuries. It was originally constructed as a single-nave church, with additional structures later added to its southern and northern sides.

Before restoration, the church stood in a severely damaged condition. The vault over the main structure had collapsed, sections of the walls had deteriorated and the later additions had also sustained significant damage. The restoration was carried out with support from the Georgian Cartu Foundation.

Architectural fragments preserved inside and around the church include decorative elements, stones bearing ancient Georgian inscriptions and medieval carved tombstones.

The inscriptions are of particular historical interest. Among the names mentioned is Kavtar Tbeli, a Georgian nobleman whom researchers associate with events at the end of the 10th century, when some Kartli feudal lords opposed the establishment of Bagrat III’s rule in Kartli.
