The Publishing House of the Moscow Patriarchate has published the book "Diamonds of Ancient Iberia" by Bishop Nikolai of Balashikha and Orekhovo-Zuyevsky.
The book "Diamonds of Ancient Iberia" is a historical and theological study that combines secular chronicles, the history of the Georgian Orthodox Church and a description of the main Christian shrines. The author provides an excursion into Georgia's past, from the ancient kingdoms of Colchis and Iberia to the 20th century, proving that the country's geopolitical choice has always been inextricably linked to its faith.
Being at the crossroads of the Islamic world and nomadic empires, Georgia was able to protect its national and cultural identity precisely because of its loyalty to Christianity. The publication pays special attention to the origin of the Christian faith in the Georgian land. It describes in detail both the apostolic period (the preaching of Andrew the First-Called) and the fateful era of St. Nina, Equal-to-the-Apostles, who baptized Iveria in the fourth century.
The reader will be able to trace the path of formation of the Georgian Church: from receiving autocephaly and the periods of its peak under King David the Builder and Queen Tamara to the 20th century. The pages of the work contain information about the Chiton of the Lord in Mtskheta, Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, the shrines of the Gelati Monastery, Bodbe and David Gareji. A special place in the narrative is given to the miraculous icons of the Mother of God, among which are the Iveron (Portaitissa), Tsilkan, Khakhul and Bodbi. "Diamonds of Ancient Iberia" is not just a chronicle of past years, but a living testimony of how faith shapes the soul and destiny of an entire nation. The publication is aimed at a wide range of readers.
The publication is dedicated to the memory of Katalikos, Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II.
