On November 11, 2025, the head of the Spiritual and Educational Center in honor of the Apostle and Evangelist Mark of the Patriarchal Exarchate of Africa, Archpriest Tigran Khachatryan, visited the Kenyan capital to discuss the future of spiritual education within the Church’s African schools, according to the official website of the Patriarchal Exarchate of Africa.
During his visit, Fr. Tigran attended the primary school affiliated with the Church of the Holy Great Martyr Panteleimon in Nairobi. He addressed the students and teachers with words of encouragement before taking part in a meeting with Archimandrite Sotirios (Matumbi), Dean of the Central District of Kenya, the school’s principal, Raphael Opati, and members of the teaching staff.
The discussion focused on improving the quality of education, enhancing academic programs, and strengthening spiritual and moral instruction. Participants agreed to establish a more systematic approach to cooperation among educators within the Patriarchal Exarchate of Africa and to organize online professional development courses for teachers.
At the conclusion of his visit, Fr. Tigran presented the school with an icon of St. Panteleimon and an educational manual on the fundamentals of the Orthodox faith.
The Spiritual and Educational Center of the Apostle Mark was established in October 2025 with the blessing of Patriarch Kirill. Its mission is to promote missionary, educational, and publishing work of the Russian Orthodox Church across Africa, including the translation and publication of Orthodox literature into African languages and providing methodological support to clergy and teachers.
