A new modular room of the charity canteen at St. Nicholas Church has been installed in Ulan-Ude. Funds for the purchase of the building were allocated as part of the Ulan-Ude Diocese's Charity Canteen 2.0 project, supported by the Presidential Grants Foundation.
"The current room, the trailer, can no longer accommodate everyone," said Priest Viktor Shcherbakov, head of the social department of the Ulan–Ude Diocese. — From 50 to 100 people visit the canteen every day, and it happens that a queue forms on the street. People are freezing in the cold or getting wet in the rain, this is wrong. The new room will be more comfortable and will accommodate more people."
It is worth noting that this is not the first transformation of the dining room of St. Nicholas Church with the support of the Presidential Grants Fund. The current trailer was installed according to the 2021 project to replace a small cabin, which at one time also became cramped for all people coming to the dining room. In total, the charity canteen has been in existence for more than 10 years.
The new building has already been manufactured and installed next to the existing trailer on the territory of St. Nicholas Church in Ulan-Ude. On May 9, Metropolitan Joseph of Ulan-Ude and Buryat got acquainted with the progress of the work on putting the new canteen into operation.
Preparations are currently underway for the opening of the canteen. Rooms are cleaned, furniture and dishes are purchased. According to Priest Viktor Shcherbakov, it is planned that the canteen will be officially opened at the end of May. In the meantime, the old trailer building is functioning as before. After the opening of the new premises in the trailer, it is planned to create a center for distributing things to those in need.
The social dining room at St. Nicholas Church is located at 56A Revolution Street, Ulan-Ude. Opening hours: daily, except Sundays, from 12:00 to 14:00.
