On All Saints' Week, June 7, 2026, celebrations dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Church of the Resurrection of Christ were held in the Tunisian capital. The church was consecrated on June 10, 1956 by St. John (Maximovich), Archbishop of Shanghai and San Francisco. The anniversary celebrations were postponed to a day off, Sunday.
On this day, the Liturgy was celebrated in the Church of the Resurrection of Christ. The divine service was performed by Archimandrite Alexander (Zarkeshev), rector of the Church of the Apostle Philip in Sharjah (United Arab Emirates), and Archpriest Dimitri Netsvetaev, rector of the Church of the Resurrection of Christ in Tunis, who were co-served by Deacon Alexy Kostin. Liturgical hymns were performed by the parish choir.
Parishioners of the community of the Russian Orthodox Church in Tunis prayed in the church; among the participants of the anniversary celebrations was the wife of the Russian Ambassador to that country, I.G. Solodov.
An icon of St. John of Shanghai and San Francisco was installed in the altar on the altar table, a gift for the 70th anniversary of the Resurrection Church from the parish of St. Philip the Apostle in the UAE.
During the funeral litany, Archimandrite Alexander remembered all the deceased rectors of the parish in Tunis.
After the communion verse, the choir performed a troparion and kontakion to St. John of Shanghai. At the end of the Liturgy, the priests carried the image of St. John from the altar to the center of the church, where they performed the rite of consecration of the new icon. Then there was a procession around the temple.
Archimandrite Alexander (Zarkeshev) congratulated the parishioners on the 70th anniversary of the church, and Archpriest Dimitri Netsvetaev told about the history of the formation of the parish and the construction of the church in Tunis.
A festive meal was held in the courtyard of the temple for all those present.
