Archbishop John of Albania met with Archbishop Ieronymos II of Athens and All Greece in Athens to discuss the social and charitable work of the Orthodox Church and its contribution to education.

According to the website of the Archdiocese of Athens, the two church leaders exchanged views on the activities of church institutions and their efforts to assist people in need.

Archbishop John outlined the social and charitable initiatives of the Orthodox Autocephalous Church of Albania, highlighting its educational system, the work of church-run schools, and support for students.

Archbishop Ieronymos, in turn, presented the activities of the Church of Greece, including social welfare and charitable institutions operating under the auspices of the Archdiocese of Athens and the country's metropolitan dioceses.

Both hierarchs emphasized the importance of pastoral ministry, social support, and providing care for vulnerable members of society.

Archbishop John's visit to Greece coincides with the Fifth Pan-Orthodox Monastic Meeting, titled Orthodox Monasticism and Mission, which opened on October 13, 2026, at the Monastery of Panagia Faneromeni on the island of Lefkada.

One of the central themes of the gathering is the spiritual and missionary legacy of the late Archbishop Anastasios of Albania, who played a pivotal role in the revival of the Albanian Orthodox Church.

On October 15, a hierarchal Divine Liturgy and memorial service were held at the monastery in remembrance of the late primate. The meeting has also featured presentations on the role of liturgical worship in Orthodox mission, the daily work of monastic communities, and the importance of love for one's neighbor in proclaiming the Christian faith.

The discussions between the Albanian and Greek church leaders reflect the Orthodox Church's continued emphasis on combining pastoral ministry with practical assistance, charitable service, and educational initiatives.
