On September 6, 2025, celebrations in honor of the XXXII Day of Belarusian Writing began in the city of Lida, Grodno region.
Celebrations on the occasion of the Day of Belarusian Writing have been held in different cities of Belarus for many years to promote the best traditions of national culture and the printed word. It is hosted by historical and cultural centers, which are associated with the life of famous figures of the country. The tradition of celebrating the Day of Belarusian Writing originated in 1994, when events in honor of the Day of Belarusian Writing and the Press were held in Polotsk for the first time on August 28. On March 26, 1998, the Decree of the President of the Republic of Belarus No. 157 "On State holidays, public holidays and memorable dates in the Republic of Belarus" was adopted, which established that the Day of Belarusian Writing will be celebrated annually on the first Sunday of September. From that moment on, the holiday received a particularly wide scope and support at the highest level.
The events within the framework of the Day of Belarusian Writing began with the scientific and educational expedition "The Road to the Shrines", the participants of which, on September 3, after a prayer service at the Holy Spirit Cathedral in Minsk, set off for Lida with the Holy Fire from the Holy Sepulchre and the miraculous Zagorye-Stolovichi icon of the Blessed Virgin Mary on a 777 km journey.
On the evening of September 6, the Patriarchal Exarch of All Belarus, Metropolitan Veniamin of Minsk and Zaslavl, representatives of the authorities, diplomatic missions, collectives of enterprises, organizations and public associations, clergy, youth, residents and guests of the city laid flowers at the memorial "Kurgan of Immortality".
The opening ceremony of the Day of Belarusian Writing was held in the central square of the city, where the Primate of the Belarusian Orthodox Church was among the honored guests. In his speech, the Patriarchal Exarch emphasized that the cities of the holiday change every year, new books are presented, but the tradition of holding the international scientific and educational expedition "The Road to the Shrines" remains unchanged, which is very symbolic, the motto of which is the words of St. Sergius of Radonezh "Let us be saved by Unity and love." Her mission is educational work, which gives residents of towns and villages the opportunity to join the celebration of the native word and our spirituality.
"The Day of Belarusian Writing gives us the opportunity to become spiritually closer to each other, returns to the origins of Orthodox culture, attracts young people to our history and native literature. May today's holiday, which has come to the ancient city of Lida, bring bright joy and love to all of you! May the Belarusian word inspire everyone to do new things for their loved ones and the Fatherland, and may the Lord's blessing be with you all!" wished the Primate of the Belarusian Orthodox Church.
