On September 5, 2026, the XXXIII Day of Belarusian Writing was officially opened in the city of Kostyukovichi, Mogilev region.
For more than three decades, it has been hosted by historical and cultural centers, which are associated with the life of famous figures of the country. The tradition of celebrating the Day of Belarusian Writing in order to popularize the best traditions of national culture and the printed word originated in 1994, when events in honor of the Day of Belarusian Writing and Printing were held in Polotsk for the first time on August 28. On March 26, 1998, Presidential Decree No. 157 "On State holidays, public holidays and memorable dates in the Republic of Belarus" was adopted, which established that the Day of Belarusian Writing will be celebrated annually on the first Sunday of September. From that moment on, the holiday received a particularly wide scope and support at the highest level. The main themes of the holiday this year are the Year of the Belarusian Woman; the 85th anniversary of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War; anniversaries of classics of Belarusian literature and the five-year plan of quality.
The events within the framework of the Day of Belarusian Writing began with the scientific and educational expedition "The Road to the Shrines", the participants of which, on September 2, after a prayer service at the Holy Spirit Cathedral in Minsk, set off for Kostyukovichi with the Holy Fire from the Holy Sepulchre and the miraculous Zagorye-Stolovichi icon of the Blessed Virgin Mary on a journey of 1,270 kilometers. The prayer service before the start of the journey was performed by the Patriarchal Exarch of All Belarus, Metropolitan Veniamin of Minsk and Zaslavl.
At the opening ceremony of the Day of Belarusian Writing in Kostyukovichi, the Primate of the Belarusian Orthodox Church was among the honored guests.
In his speech, the Patriarchal Exarch emphasized that over the years of the Day of Belarusian Writing, an important tradition has grown and strengthened in our country.: Again and again we turn the eyes of society not only to the history of letters and books, but also to the spiritual foundations of the cultural life of our people, to its moral origins and eternal values.
"It is significant that today's celebration is taking place in Kostyukovichi, a city with a rich history and deep spiritual traditions. This land has given Belarus many talented writers and poets, whose works have enriched our culture," said Metropolitan Veniamin.
"Undoubtedly, the word occupies a special, central place in human life,– said the archpastor. – On the one hand, it is a mirror of the soul, which reflects the spiritual and moral state of the speaker, his life experience. On the other hand, the word affects the soul and heart of the listener, forms his worldview. And this applies equally to the spoken word, as well as to what has been preserved in books for centuries and passed down through generations. That is why a person's responsibility for every spoken and written word is so great. And in this century, a time of an overabundance of the most diverse and not always useful information for the human soul, this topic is becoming even more significant." 
"Based on our rich heritage, we are called upon to ensure that communication in our society is based on a kind, pure word, a word that comes from the human heart. And in this noble field, the role of writers, poets, other cultural and information figures, as well as school teachers, is especially important – those who daily introduce children to the great power of their native word," the Primate of the Belarusian Orthodox Church emphasized. 
In conclusion, His Eminence wished those gathered for the celebration that this event would become a source of new creative ideas, achievements and spiritual enrichment for everyone.
