On September 2, 2025, a historic joint Divine Liturgy was held at the Cathedral of Saint Nicholas in Washington, D.C., led by His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon, Archbishop of All America and Canada, and His Beatitude Archbishop Stefan, head of the Macedonian Orthodox Church – Ohrid Archbishopric. This event was reported by the Macedonian Church's news portal, liturgija.mk.

During the service, Metropolitan Tikhon included Archbishop Stefan's name in the Diptych of the heads of Local Churches for the first time, signifying the official recognition of the Macedonian Church's autocephaly by the Orthodox Church in America. The liturgy brought together clergy and faithful from the United States and Canada, including the Macedonian community, and was accompanied by the singing of the archiepiscopal choir.

Following the service, a festive reception was held at the Embassy of the Republic of Macedonia, attended by Ambassador Zoran Popov.

The Macedonian Orthodox Church received autocephaly in 2022 from the Serbian Orthodox Church and has been recognized by several Local Churches, including the Russian, Bulgarian, Romanian, Greek, Cypriot, and the Ecumenical Patriarchate. The recognition by the Orthodox Church in America strengthens its status globally and expands its Eucharistic communion with other Local Churches.
