President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin has instructed the Government of the Russian Federation to create an organizing committee for the celebration of the 700th anniversary of the Holy Trinity Ipatievsky Monastery in Kostroma, which will be celebrated in 2030.
The corresponding decree No. 549 dated August 4, 2026 was published on the official portal for the publication of legal acts.
The Holy Trinity Ipatievsky Monastery is one of the oldest monasteries in Russia, inextricably linked with the history of the Russian state. It was here in 1613 that the news of Mikhail Romanov's election to the throne came, marking the beginning of the three-hundred-year reign of the Romanov dynasty. Mikhail Fyodorovich was blessed with the kingdom with the main Kostroma shrine, the miraculous Feodorovskaya Icon of the Mother of God.
Russian President Vladimir Putin announced support for the celebration of a significant date to the Governor of the Kostroma Region Sergey Sitnikov during a working meeting in March 2025. "This is a landmark event for the whole of Russia," the head of state supported the governor.
By Presidential decree, the Government of the Russian Federation was instructed to form an organizing committee for the preparation and holding of the celebration within six months, as well as to ensure the development and approval of a plan of major events.
The Kostroma region is already actively preparing for the anniversary. Earlier, with the support of the regional administration, the Institute of History of the Russian Academy of Sciences prepared an expert opinion recognizing 1330 as the conditional date of the monastery's foundation. Large-scale archaeological excavations were carried out on the territory of the monastery, during which unique artifacts were discovered.
The relevant departments, together with the Kostroma Archdiocese, have developed a preliminary plan for the preparation and holding of anniversary events. Governor Sergey Sitnikov also discussed the upcoming celebration with His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia.
Last spring, during a working visit to Kostroma by Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Medinsky, a set of key areas of preparation for the event was discussed — carrying out restoration work in the monastery, landscaping the surrounding area, connecting facilities to gas supply networks, and developing new sightseeing routes.
The Governor instructed relevant departments to coordinate preparations for the celebration of the 700th anniversary of the Holy Trinity Ipatiev Monastery in close cooperation with the Government of the Russian Federation.
