On February 4, 2025, a solemn proclamation of 16 new Romanian saints took place at the Patriarchal Cathedral in Bucharest. The canonization was timed to coincide with the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Romanian Patriarchate.

The Divine Liturgy was led by Patriarch Daniel, concelebrated by members of the Holy Synod and clergy. After the service, the Secretary of the Synod, Bishop Varlaam of Ploiești, read the act of canonization, followed by the announcement of the saints' names and their feast days. Icons were presented in their honor, and troparia were sung.

In his address, Patriarch Daniel called the new saints a "precious fruit" of the Romanian Orthodox Church, emphasizing that their lives testify to the workings of the Holy Spirit. Among those canonized were confessors and martyrs of the 20th century, many of whom suffered for their faith during times of persecution.

"Their canonization is an act of recognizing the holiness of their lives, transcending political contexts. It is a testimony that true Christian confession upholds eternal values of faith and love for God," the Patriarch stated.

Following the proclamation, Metropolitan Joseph of Western and Southern Europe led a thanksgiving service in honor of the Patriarchate’s anniversary.
