In 2022, on the night of July 16-17, as part of the celebration of the 600th anniversary of the finding of the relics of St. Sergius of Radonezh, the icon of the Life-Giving Trinity of St. Andrei Rublev was temporarily moved from the Tretyakov Gallery to the Trinity Cathedral of the Lavra, and on June 22, 2024, the shrine was permanently moved.
In honor of this significant event, on July 25, 2024, at a meeting of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church, it was decided to establish a celebration of the day of the offering of the Trinity icon to the Holy Trinity Sergius Lavra. Thus, on May 15, 2025, at a regular meeting of the Synod, the text of the service in honor of bringing the icon for church-wide liturgical use was approved.
Since then, June 22 has been another particularly revered day for the monastery of St. Sergius.
Yulia Buslavskaya, the press secretary of the vicar of the Holy Trinity Sergius Lavra, Bishop Kirill of Sergiev Posad and Dmitrov, informs:
"On June 21, at 16:45, a polyeleic divine service will be held at the Assumption Cathedral of the Lavra. And on June 22, at 6:30, the Divine Liturgy will take place in the Trinity Cathedral, where the relics of St. Sergius of Radonezh and the “Trinity” Rublev are located.
We invite everyone to attend the divine services and to pray together in front of the ancient icon. And for those who will not be able to attend the Lavra, you can honor this day with prayer in other churches, light candles, and order a thanksgiving prayer service for the return of this icon to the Church. You will also be able to view the sermon, part of the service, news, and photos on our resources."
