A meeting on routine medical care for the homeless in the Moscow region was held at the Central Clinical Hospital of St. Alexy, Metropolitan of Moscow. The meeting was attended by Olga Demicheva, member of the Presidential Council for the Development of Civil Society and Human Rights, President of the International Charitable Public Organization "Fair Aid for Dr. Lisa", Alexey Zarov, Director and Chief physician of St. Alexy's Hospital, Andrey Yakunin, head of the Homeless assistance department of the Synodal Department for Church Charity and Social Service, and representatives of 12 non-profit organizations Moscow and the Moscow region, which provide assistance to the homeless.
The Synodal Charity Department organized the event.
This is the second meeting at which issues of cooperation between St. Alexy's Hospital and non-profit organizations in Moscow and the Moscow region in the framework of providing medical care to the homeless were discussed. The first meeting took place in February 2026. During the meeting, the participants discussed options for the hospital's participation in providing routine medical care to the homeless. For effective communication, they developed an algorithm for the interaction of NGOs and St. Alexy's Hospital. In September, the interim results of the joint work were summed up.
The meeting was opened by Alexey Zarov, Director and Chief Physician of St. Alexy's Hospital. He spoke about the possibilities of providing routine medical care to people without documents both in outpatient and inpatient settings.
"We want to be active participants in helping the homeless and are always ready to provide the church Hospital as a venue for our meetings," Alexey Zarov addressed the guests.
During the meeting, Olga Demicheva stressed the importance of the topic under discussion and recalled the President's instruction from February 2025 to work out possible solutions to issues related to the provision of medical care to the homeless. She also cited the experience of medical and social assistance to the homeless in several regions - Tyumen, St. Petersburg, Kazan and Chelyabinsk — and called for the replication of the most successful options for interagency cooperation to other regions of Russia.
During the meeting, the participants discussed issues of medical care for the homeless, including their placement in rehabilitation centers, psychiatric and drug treatment hospitals.

Elena Perkhunova, curator of social activities at the Synodal Department for Charity in Moscow, shared her experience of people in homelessness with medical problems contacting the church's help hotline.
 "Ultimately, our joint task is to increase the level of planned medical care for people in homelessness situations. It is necessary that they receive this assistance, that they be routed, that they come out of a situation of homelessness healthy and well—groomed," said Andrei Yakunin, head of the homeless assistance department of the Synodal Department of Charity.
Today, 103 shelters for the homeless have been opened with the participation of the Church, and 23 mercy buses, mobile aid stations for the homeless, are operating.
The Central Clinical Hospital of St. Alexy, Metropolitan of Moscow, is a medical institution of the Russian Orthodox Church, a multidisciplinary medical institution with 300 beds. People from all regions of Russia are treated here, regardless of religion. The hospital is located in Moscow. Branches have been opened in Shuya, Ivanovo Region, Zhukovsky, Moscow Region, and Pereslavl-Zalessky, Yaroslavl Region. A Prosthetics and Medical Adaptation Center has been set up in Gorlovka (DPR). There is a licensed Training Center for the training of junior nurses in patient care.
