On the 19th Week after Pentecost, on October 11, 2026, Metropolitan Herman of Kursk and Rila performed the rite of the great consecration of the Church of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos in the city of Kursk and celebrated the Divine Liturgy in the newly consecrated church.
The consecration of two altars took place: the central one in honor of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos, and the southern one in honor of the Holy Martyrs Onufriy and Damian, the archbishops of Kursk, who suffered for their faith during the years of persecution in the 20th century.
The liturgical hymns were performed by the bishop's choir and the parish choir.
The governor of the Kursk region, A.E. Khinstein, representatives of the regional and city authorities, benefactors and builders of the temple, numerous parishioners, and residents of the Northwestern residential district of Kursk prayed at the service.
At the end of the Divine Liturgy, Metropolitan Herman congratulated the flock on the great consecration of the church. The archpastor thanked Abbot Pitirim for his efforts in erecting this magnificent temple, originally conceived as a courtyard of the Gornal St. Nicholas Belogorsky Monastery. After the Ukrainian Armed Forces invaded the territory of the Sudzha district in August 2024, this parish became the location and ministry of the monastery's brethren, as well as the place where the main shrine of the destroyed monastery, the Pryazhevsky Icon of the Mother of God (found in 1792), which was miraculously saved, is kept.
The rector of the church, Hegumen Pitirim, addressed the ruling bishop with words of appreciation and gratitude, thanking Metropolitan Herman for his archpastoral care and the great consecration of the church.
