On January 20, 2025, a press conference dedicated to the XXXIII International Christmas Educational Readings "80th Anniversary of the Great Victory: memory and Spiritual Experience of Generations" was held at the TASS Information Center in Moscow.
The event was attended by: Metropolitan Evgeny of Yekaterinburg and Verkhotursky, Chairman of the Synodal Department of Religious Education and Catechesis, Head of the organizing committee of the Readings; Vladimir Legoyda, Chairman of the Synodal Department for Church-Society Relations and the Media; Peter Tolstoy, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation.
Metropolitan Eugene spoke about the specifics of this year's Christmas readings. The Chairman of the Synodal Department of Religious Education and Catechesis noted that the international forum was preceded by a multifaceted work. Since September 2024, educational readings have been held in all regions of Russia, attended by more than a million people. The regional stage was hosted by 168 dioceses in Russia, as well as 18 dioceses in other countries.
The regional Christmas readings conclude with celebrations and working events in Moscow. About 170 events are planned to be held at more than 50 venues within the framework of the forum from January 26 to January 30. The official opening will take place on January 26. It will be preceded by the Divine Liturgy at the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow. His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia is expected to lead the divine service. The solemn session of the readings will be held at the State Kremlin Palace on January 28.
"The theme of the Readings invites us to realize that the celebration of the Great Victory today is not just a memory of former events for us. Victory was granted to our people, our Fatherland, on Easter as God's response to the sacrificial feat of the people at the front, in the rear and to the revival of the veneration of our holy warriors, the return of the spiritual root. Today, this is becoming a guideline for us — victory in the struggle for values, for meanings, for the opportunity to live in the evangelical coordinate system. And this victory is possible only when the Lord sees our sacrificial love, our unity, and our common work for the coming Victory. Our choice is to build our lives on the basis of the gospel commandments and spiritual traditions, and as the program shows, this theme is reflected in each Reading area," said Metropolitan Eugene.
"Let me also remind you of another date for the coming year. This is the 100th anniversary of the blessed repose of St. Tikhon, Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia. The program of the Readings will also include events dedicated to this date," the bishop noted.
Vladimir Leygoida spoke about the significance of the Christmas readings and the meanings that are embedded in the topic of the current forum. He said that Parliamentary meetings are meaningful and substantive, and represent a unique format for interaction between the public and the government. The head of the Synodal department noted that the forum will also discuss the topic of modern education and the development of artificial intelligence.
"We need to understand how fundamentally neural networks are changing our understanding of the educational process and its results today. I will say harshly that existing neural networks actually make sense of the existence of written works as a test of knowledge. Because neural networks can write educational scientific papers of any format very efficiently and very quickly. It has its own peculiarities, as we found out, sometimes they come up with sources and quotes that don't exist, but this is reality. We must learn to work with this reality not by the method of prohibitions, but by integrating new tools into the educational process. In addition, there is a moral component, which is present in almost everything in our lives. And this is also the specifics of our forum," Vladimir Legoyda emphasized.
The XIII Christmas Parliamentary meetings will be held on January 30, 2025 in the State Duma. The plenary session of the Parliamentary Meetings will be chaired by His Holiness Patriarch Kirill and Chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin. Pyotr Tolstoy spoke in detail about the Parliamentary meetings. Three thematic round tables will be held in the State Duma: "The Spiritual Front of Russia" (related to a special military operation), "From saving the people to multiplying the people" (will address demographic issues), "Fostering patriotism in an educational environment" (involves discussing issues of education and upbringing).
The State Duma will also host an exhibition of drawings from the International Children's Art Competition "The Beauty of God's World" and an exhibition about the Russian military clergy. As part of the Christmas Parliamentary Meetings, the winners of the International Children's Creativity Competition "The Beauty of God's World" and the All-Russian competition in the field of pedagogy, education and work with children and youth under 20 years of age "For the moral feat of a teacher" in 2024 will be awarded.
Key events will be broadcast on the TV channels "Spas", "Soyuz", on the Internet resources of the Synodal Department of Religious Education and Catechesis, in the mobile application "PravObraz". "This will significantly expand the audience of Readings and provides an opportunity for full—fledged remote participation for many who wish," said Metropolitan Eugene.
